On Sunday, March 14th, the 63rd annual Grammy award show took place. 2020 was a difficult year for many, but music made coping with the pandemic easier.

This is an anticipated event within the music industry; new artists are on the rise and some have been around for decades, the show is meaningful to many. It first began in 1959, with the creators wanting to celebrate the industry’s most talented artists, songwriters, and composers. While the creators of the show itself are unknown, the Grammy Awards were first presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Science (NARAS).

These are some of the artists that won a Grammy this year and their most impressive achievements:

Beyonce won her 28th Grammy, becoming the most decorated female artist in the show’s history. She won four Grammys; Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance  with Megan thee Stallion, Best R&B Performance, and Best Music Video. Her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, also picked up her first Grammy award. Beyonce has the most nominations that any female has ever had with a total of 79. She is only followed by her own husband, rapper Jay-Z with a total of 80 nominations; Jay-Z is also tied for the most nominations ever with Producer Quincy Jones.

This year, Megan thee Stallion won Best New Artist, she’s the first female rapper to win this award since Lauryn Hill in 1999.

Taylor Swift took home her 11th Grammy for Album of the Year, becoming the first female in history to win this award three times. Back in 2010, she became the youngest person to ever win this accomplishment. Some of her other wins have been for Best Country Song and Performance, Best Country Album, Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Music Video.

Billie Eilish won Record of the Year, two total wins for the night, bringing her total to seven Grammys. This is her second year in a row to win this award. During the 62nd show, Eilish won her first grammy at the age of 18. Some of her other achievements include Best Album, Best New artist, and Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Harry Styles won his first-ever Grammy for Best Song Performance. He is the first of the ex-members of One Direction to receive a Grammy. He has only received three nominations, this being his first and only win.

The Grammy Award Show is an important event of the year in the music industry. We can only hope that this show will continue on celebrating the accomplishments of all talented artists who exist now, and those in the future.
