Film production is beginning to resume and movies that were supposed to set to release this last year are finally being released now. This year is going to be full of anticipated releases as well. Knight Press took a poll on which movie genre is our students’ “go-to” genre. Action/Adventure movies came out on top.

These are not only the most anticipated movies from the winning genre, but also movies set to be released in the next few months:

Godzilla vs. Kong came out Wednesday, March 31, 2021. It was one of the most anticipated movies set to release in 2021. Although the critic reviews that this film received weren’t the best, it did well in box offices. The Global Box Office reports the movie earnings have topped over $350 million thus far. The movie features actors such as Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, and Eiza Gonzales. The plot follows after the events of 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island,” and 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” The director, Adam Wingard, is well known for his work on several action movies, but also horror films. Some of the titles he’s directed include Death Note, The Guest, and now Godzilla vs. Kong. 

Another action/adventure movie coming out after “Godzilla vs. Kong”, is “Mortal Kombat”. It debuts on April 23, 2021- a week after its original release date. Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. decided to push “Mortal Kombat” back in order to space out potential blockbuster hits. This announcement came after Godzilla vs. Kong did so well on its first release day. 

Since its delay in May 2020, Marvel’s Black Widow movie is finally going to be released on July 9, 2021. This movie’s release date has changed several times, the first being from May to November, and then  to May 7, 2021, to finally July 9, 2021. With the release date constantly changing, this movie has stayed anticipated since they first announced it. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Will Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and features Robert Downey Jr.

The Action/Adventure genre has been thriving over the past decade. It’s not only the genre with the most movies, but it has also made the most money out overall. With this genre having several potential blockbusters set to release this year, 2021 should be packed with many good movies.
