Custodian Appreciation Day

The Student Council showed their appreciation for the custodial staff at Independence High School (IHS).

The students and staff prepared various gifts for the custodians in recognition of their daily hard work and effort.

“We will be giving the custodians gift bags full of little goodies,” student council’s teacher sponsor Brittany Hendry said. “We are also making cards for them to show how grateful we are.”

The IHS Student Council prepared flowers and gift bags for the custodians in the library on Friday, Oct. 1.

Along with the gifts, the office staff decorated the custodians’ door before they came to school in the morning.

“Basically, we’re doing this just to reiterate how much we appreciate their help,” AP Secretary Gloria Cotton said. “They really help run this school. If we didn’t have them, we really would be at such a loss so we truly want to appreciate all that they do.”

Students expressed their gratitude for the custodial staff and all they do to keep IHS a safe, clean environment.

“I would say thanks for everything that they do. We could never truly appreciate their service,” Sophomore Yessica Bhatnagar said. “We’ll try our best to help them out and maintain clean school surroundings.”

Sophomore Svetlana Thoppay also shared her thoughts.

“I really want to thank the janitors for working so hard to keep our learning environment clean to help us succeed,” Thoppay said.

Since National Custodian Day was on Saturday, Oct. 2, the surprise event took place on Friday, Oct. 1.

The IHS staff also plan on holding an additional event for them sometime in November where they will prepare a lunch for them.
