Holiday movie favorites

The holidays are here. With the weather getting colder and lights being hung, our Knights are going to begin watching their favorite holiday movies over winter break.

Some people find their holiday spirit through listening to music, spending time with family, decorating, or their own personal traditions. But many can all agree that holiday movies are one of the best parts of the season.

Here are some fan favorite movie suggestions to watch over break from the Knight Press and Knight TV staff.

Polar Express

“The Polar Express is about a doubting young boy who takes an adventurous train ride to the North Pole, while embarking on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. I grew up watching this movie a lot during the winter. As a kid, this movie was really good to watch, as Santa played a big role in it. This is still definitely one of my favorite Christmas movies and I will continue to watch it every year.”

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

“My favorite Christmas movie is How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The movie is about the Grinch, a furry-looking creature who has a huge dislike towards anything Christmas in a place called Whoville. Whoville is filled with pretty happy and energetic people especially during the Christmas season. However, the Grinch is the opposite of this; he is a very grumpy, mean, and somewhat terrible person in the beginning as he steals everyone in Whoville’s christmas presents as a way of revenge. But once he meets Cindy Lou, a kid he encounters as he steals presents, the two contrasting pairs become friends, helping the Grinch see that not everything should be filled with hate. The reason this is my favorite movie is because I somewhat understand why the Grinch did what he did: he was bullied, teased, and made to be an outsider in a place he thought was his home. I like how he finally finds the place in his heart to not seek revenge, but kindness even though everyone around him didn’t do the same. It was a film that I always watch during the holiday season that makes me feel happy seeing how the Grinch became a better person in the end.”

Christmas Vacation

“Christmas Vacation is a tradition in our household. While I was growing up, this was the movie we put on while putting up the Christmas tree in our house. I think this is because it reminded us of our own family- a family who is messy, funny, loud, big, but most of all loving. This movie is a wild ride of all that could possibly go wrong during the holiday season. It is a slap-stick comedy made in 1989, but it transcends generations. National Lampoon movies are all great, but Chevy Chase in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation takes the number one spot for me. The movie truly shows why being together with your family at the holidays is so special.”

Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!

Even though I don’t officially celebrate Christmas, I always loved to get into the Christmas spirit as a child, and my favorite way to do this was by watching Christmas movies on Disney. “Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!” was my favorite Disney Channel Christmas movie because of its interesting storyline (well, as interesting as Disney Channel can be) and nostalgic comedic scenes. Overall, I loved watching this movie as a child, which is partly the reason why I love watching it today to get me into the Christmas spirit!

Elf

“In Elf, Buddy is accidentally raised by elves in the North Pole and he finally discovers that he is actually a human. He goes on an adventure to find his father in New York City. In this Christmas journey, he makes lots of friends and falls in love as well. This movie reminds me of my childhood. I watch it every christmas no matter what. I love Will Ferrell, and his acting is amazing in this movie. It is definitely my favorite Christmas movie.”

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is a classic christmas movie from the 80s, almost like if Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Elf had a baby. This movie always hits me with a wave of nostalgia as FX always does a 24 hour marathon of it. My family and I have watched it on Christmas day every year for as long as I can remember. The main character Ralphie is a flawed 3rd grader who’s traits and actions are incredibly relatable . This is my favorite Christmas movie and my family and I will continue to watch it every year on Christmas Day.

Home Alone

I love watching all of the Home Alone movies, especially during the winter time. They are the best movies to watch with your family, and will make you laugh so hard. One of my favorites has to be “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.” While following Kevin around New York, you get to see the city during the winter time, and throughout the movie you find yourself rooting for Kevin. I especially love the scene at the end in front of the Rockefeller center, I could watch it over and over again.
