Frisco ISD introduces health clinic
Frisco Independent School District (FISD) is partnering with the Dallas Physician Medical Services for Children (DPMSC) to open a health clinic that will provide free healthcare services for employees.
The clinic will open in the spring of 2022; the district plans for it to be a permanent addition.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve our employee benefits,” FISD Chief Financial Officer Kimberly Smith said. “We have been searching for new, innovative ways to promote wellness and to provide resources to ensure staff are taken care of physically and emotionally.”
Independence High School (IHS) Nurse, Lalania Richard, shared her thoughts.
“I think the clinic is a great concept and I hope that FISD employees will take advantage of this additional benefit from the district,” she said.
The clinic will help treat several health problems including asthma, skin disorders, allergies, infections, pneumonia, and bronchitis.
It will also be available for student athletes during athletic events, and the facility will have advanced x-ray equipment for faster results.
Along with health care services, the DPMSC will also supply school campuses with athletic trainers.
“Athletic trainers are hugely needed,” IHS Wrestling Coach Maxine Lisot said. “Expanding the availability would expedite treatment for athletes that urgently need it.”
Employees will be able to visit the clinic in person at 6950 Stadium Lane, or virtually through a Telehealth app.
“The clinic space will be owned by the District and will be leased by the DPMSC,” Smith said. “The DPMSC will also use the space for sports medicine and outpatient rehabilitative care separate from the services they’re providing to FISD students and staff.”
For FISD teachers, especially those with children, the clinic may also help reduce expenses.
“It can be very hard to find readily accessible healthcare for yourself, much less your family,” Lisot said. “I spent a lot of money to take my daughter to urgent care, and they only did a diagnosis without any treatment. This clinic would help tremendously.”
