Gov. Greg Abbott will serve a third term in office.

The race to win the gubernatorial election resulted in Abbott winning 11 percent more of the overall vote than the Democratic candidate, Robert O’Rourke.

The election results were finalized on Nov. 8, 2022 at 9:23 p.m. Abbott won 54.8 percent of the total vote and O’Rourke won 43.8 percent.

In his midterm election speech, Abbott said he, “ran this campaign for Texans to have safer streets, for homeowners who are burdened with skyrocketing property tax, for oil-filled workers who beg for [job protection], for parents who want to choose the school that is best for their child, and for small business owners.”

Along with promising to address concerns raised by Texans, Abbott also claims that he will mandate border security.

Despite his loss in the election, O’Rourke believes that “Everything we could possibly give to this campaign, we gave to this.”

O’Rourke reassures his voters that he will continue to remain involved and fight for his campaign values of protecting reproductive rights and moderate gun control.

Throughout this election Abbott’s final message to Texans is, “Just know this, we will go to work every single day to earn [your trust], and together we will keep Texas the greatest state in the history of the world.”
