Universal Studios heads to Frisco
Universal Studios is introducing a new theme park in Frisco, Texas.
NBC Universal, the leading company of Universal Studios, purchased 97 acres on the Dallas North Tollway (DNT).
Frisco officials and executives with Universal announced their plans on Wednesday, Jan. 11 for the new development after months of planning and negotiations.
According to Universal Corporate Communications, Universal Parks & Resorts selected the city of Frisco, due to the city’s growing population and its ability to attract businesses to the area.
“Frisco is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and has been recognized as a great place to plant professional roots and raise a family,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “This new Universal concept will continue to enhance our tax base, expand employment opportunities and bring even more fun to Frisco benefiting our residents, businesses, and visitors.”
Celebrating Universal’s brand of entertainment and innovation, the concept of the park is set in a lush green landscape, featuring themed lands, beloved characters, and stories, attracting the younger generation.
The 300-room Universal-themed hotel and proposed park consist of family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meets and greets unique merchandise, and food and beverage venues.
The park is specifically designed to stimulate fun in Frisco families and hopes to target a younger audience.
“You have a fantastic town,” said, Mark Woodbury, chairman, and CEO of Universal Parks and Resorts. “It’s vibrant and full of energy and full of young families, which make it the perfect place for what we are doing.”
