After a spirited comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, the Kansas City Chiefs became Super Bowl champions for the second time in four years.

It was a back-and-forth battle. In the first half, the Eagles looked like a win was inevitable. Still, after an unexpected series of events closing the second half, the Eagles were left outscored 38-35, leading the Chiefs to secure the coveted Lombardi Trophy once again.

The first half led to the re-injury of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

After the star signal-caller injured his right ankle while being taken down during the divisional-round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“He’s doing great this week. I don’t know that he’ll be 100 percent, but he sure isn’t going to tell you otherwise,” said Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.

Then, during the second quarter of the Super Bowl matchup, Mahomes reinjured his ankle and limped off the field after being taken down on a scramble, leaving the crowds to speculate whether he would return to the field for the third quarter.

According to Sports Illustrated, “Mahomes could be seen writhing in pain on the bench while being attended to by the team’s medical staff.”

As the 15-minute timer began for the third quarter, Mahomes stepped back onto the turf, making a bold comeback.

He led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in an Isiah Pacheco (running back for the Chiefs) touchdown. Mahomes even scrambled for an ambitious gain of 14 yards to get Kansas City to the Philadelphia 4-yard line, leaving fans of the Chiefs and Eagles alike in shock for such a robust reappearance.

Then, a controversial holding penalty by Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was called by officials.

With 1:54 left on the clock, a bright yellow flag was thrown on the field against the Eagles defense.

“It was a holding,” Bradberry told reporters in the locker room after losing to the Chiefs. “I tugged his jersey. I was hoping they would let it slide.”

The penalty gave the Chiefs a chance to score.

From that point forward, the Chiefs could essentially run the clock down. Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon made a clever move on the first down, sliding two yards short of the goal line instead of scoring a touchdown.

As the clock ticked, Mahomes was able to kneel twice after the Eagles used their final timeout.

Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Chiefs, kicked a 27-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining that proved to be the winner.

Mahomes won his second Super Bowl MVP award after leading his team to a victory, as the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35.
