Brothers bond on and off the field

Varsity baseball players typically engage in player-to-player training to help the freshman and sophomores get on the team.

This season two of our varsity teammates share something a little different; brother-to-brother training.

Junior Matt Reynolds helps his younger brother, Zach Reynolds lead to be a better player while playing side-by-side on the varsity baseball team.

“I have seen him grow a lot as a player,” said Matt Reynolds. “He has gotten a lot better since playing on varsity.”

Coach Stacey Largent has witnessed this bond in their first year together.

“They definitely pull for each other,” said the varsity baseball coach. “When everyone has success, they both have success, and when they experience failure, they both experience failure.”

Zach has been watching Matt play ever since he was six, and finally had the chance in his last two years of high school to play with him.

“It’s been really fun because I get to see him grow as a player,” said Zach Reynolds. “He has gotten a lot better at his footwork and his arm has gotten a lot stronger.”

This brotherly bond will continue on the field through this season to the next.

“When Matt is a senior, he is going to make a lot of plays…and put the ball in play a lot more,” said Zach Reynolds. “He is going to help me grow and be a better player.”

“They are a pleasure to be around and an honor to coach every day,” said Coach Largent. “Both of them.”

As the season closes, Matt and Zach Reynolds have gained experience and skills from each other.

“I have gained more confidence because he is always there for me,” said Zach. “ He makes me play harder.”

Matt has seen how much his brother has grown up, and has high hopes for next season playing with him one last time.

“I have always wanted to see my little brother succeed,” said Matt. “Now that he is finally by my side on varsity, it’s a new step for the both of us, and a memory I can keep forever.”
