Students and Teachers Prep End of the Year Classwork
As June 5th approaches, students seem to just want to think about summer days rather than schoolwork.
In reality, they may not want to fall into the trap, because there is still more time to learn.
This means that you might not want to have unrealistic expectations for the last weeks of school.
“Maybe they’ll just be super nice that week and be like ‘no schoolwork, you can go home’,” said sophomore Lauren Raube.
Meanwhile, teachers have a very different way of thinking for what they are expecting for the last few days of the year.
“No, not at all. It’s our job for students to learn, and if you weren’t doing that then we wouldn’t be doing our job,” said science teacher Mr. Zachary Allgood.
However, teachers have scheduled work, projects, and tests to the end of the school year.
“I cannot speak for every individual teacher in this building but I can say that without a doubt in chemistry and in science we plan for the very last day of school,” said Allgood.
“Teachers were students at one point. So they should know what we’re going through and how much students are looking forward to summer,” said sophomore Reece Cantrell.
As they are making preparations for the end of the year, teachers in Frisco do not have to worry about final exams.
This is because finals are not included in the planning by the Frisco Independent School District.
“A lot of times the end of course exams or the end of year tests, or finals, that really helps students prepare for a compilation exam or a comprehension exam which a lot of them will have in college,” said English teacher Mrs. Jennifer Hughes, who once taught at a school who had final exams.
“I just feel like that’s too much stress for us students,” said sophomore Sigmund Brunson.
He said he feels like the school year is full of information overload anyway.
“The school year is pretty long too. You don’t want to just cram a bunch of information all school year long. It doesn’t work that way,” commented Brunson.
However, teachers look at it differently. They are already looking towards the next school year.
“Just because the school year is almost over, it doesn’t mean all of the sudden everything should stop because there’s always something to plan for and there’s always more to build toward,” said Hughes.
“At Independence High School, you’ve got another whole year ahead of you. Just because it is summer time doesn’t mean that school will stop, because you’re going back to school in another two months so it kinda doesn’t end,” said Allgood.
Don’t turn your brain off yet, because just as fast as the school year went by, it will come back again.
