Athletes journey to recovery
Students entering high school sports may have their mind set on playing the sport they love in college.
Just what if this could all be ruined by just one injury?
Our training staff is on the sidelines and provides morning and afternoon therapy to get athletes back on their feet.
“For morning treatments, there are always at least ten people in there,” said trainer Erik Murphy.
Coach Matthew DonCarlos has witnessed the amount of injuries that took place this school year.
“We have had a bunch of guys have shoulder issues and have to go in for that,” said Coach DonCarlos. “We have had three or four guys who have had shoulder issues from the football team alone.”
John Plain received news of injuries during his wrestling in-season.
“I tore my rotator cuff and a muscle in my elbow,” said wrestler John Plain. “ I had to watch my teammates continue into off season while I was on the bench. I had to spend a lot of time in the trainers doing rehab and waking up early, not a lot of fun.”
Coach DonCarlos talked about preventable measures athletes can take so injuries don’t impact their athletic careers.
“Our whole off season and conditioning program is for students to take it seriously and lift weights practice running and just doing it right,” said Coach DonCarlos. “Having your body prepared for the grind of going through practice three times a week and playing a game.”
Next year, the training program will be bigger and more advanced. With more trainers on the sidelines, at practices, and in the training room, hopefully injuries can be taken care of right away.
