The students behind the play

Some people become part of a team by being in sports or joining a club, but Tech Theatre students say they become closer by working continuous hours behind the scenes of a play.

Tech Theatre students work during the school period and after school every day to get ready for a new show.

“We spend a lot of time. We go from  4:30 to 7 but usually it’s usually 4:30 to 6:30, and one time during winter break we will be here from 9 to 5, so it’s a lot of work,”  said Junior Brianna Casselman.

This time is spent working on new sets, lighting, sound, makeup, and costumes to make the play more realistic.

“My favorite part is building a whole new world on a stage where you’re able to recreate something that your actors can bring to life to make the audience feel like they’re in the time period or setting with a set,” said senior Chandler Blatnik.

Creating new sets doesn’t just create a story for the actors but also allows the Tech Theatre students to learn about getting everything done on time.

“Time management is crucial without time management you don’t have deadlines. You don’t have time to get stuff done, you don’t have things to work on,” said Tech Theatre teacher Brent Bell.

Tech students said they learn valuable lessons while working hard with their peers.

“You really learn how to work together and how to work with your fellow techies. You want to be able to work with others and how to cooperate and get something so beautiful and magnificent done for a show, so teamwork is a very important thing,”said Blatnik.

“Techies” said that everyone’s contributions are what gets the elaborate set completed.

They are now preparing for their new show “Once Upon a Mattress” that will be on January 14th, 15th, and 16th.
