Student Council (STUCO) at IHS organizes student events and brings the administration and student body together. Last week, STUCO finalized next year’s officers. Here’s a rundown of who they are, and what they hope to bring to IHS next school year.

President, Aanya Chidananda

“As President, I am looking forward to representing and working with the student body to incorporate new ideas and continue making the school great. This position is a priority for me and it will be a priority over everything next year.

Next year, I will make sure that everyone feels included and that everyone feels like their input is being heard, and that they have a say too. One goal I have is to add more events for the entire student body. I also hope to expand general STUCO too.

Overall, I just want to see more people having fun and just enjoying high school. I’m excited about the responsibility, and being the voice that represents my school.”

Vice President, Sruthi Sudakar

“As Vice President, I plan to expand the Executive Student Council class and the General Student Council club and help improve senior events. I am excited to join the officer team and can’t wait for next year.

I’m very creative and I love working with other people. I think my personality really matches with a lot of what STUCO is about. Next year, I will be managing outreach with general STUCO with Nameer, who is our Executive Liaison. I will be meeting with the Assistant Principals to help make decisions.

I want STUCO to be more known in the school and have a bigger impact on the student body, and also have a lot more events for IHS seniors. I think that starts with growing trust with the admin and staff, and I plan to work towards that as Vice President.”

Executive Liaison, Nameer Khan

“As Executive Liaison, I will make it my goal to connect with the student body at IHS. I was born in California and grew up in Dallas with a lot of people around me. This is how I developed my communication skills, and the ability to interact with all types of people.

STUCO for me highlights a representation of who everyone at this school is and what they strive for. This will be my second year being Executive Liaison. Next year, I will continue keeping up with the student body, connecting with them as much as I can, getting their feedback on how they feel about the school, and finding their opinions on what they want to see here at IHS.

Everyone has their own mindset and vision of what their high school experience is to them. I want to make the student body’s wants and needs possible.”

Secretary, Ryan Jones

“As Secretary, I am excited to organize and plan the agenda for the executive student council so that we can present new and fun events and activities for the student body.

I play percussion for the IHS band, and am also a part of other student organizations as well. The rhythm and the beat of the drums in percussion are kind of like a metaphor for structure and consistency, so as secretary, I plan on bringing that same structure to STUCO next year.

I will [also] be working on creating deadlines and schedules for STUCO. I want to make sure that we will give the student body everything that they hope to have. I think that starts with the scheduling, which I will be working towards as an officer.”

Historian, Samiyah Ansari

“As Historian, I am looking forward to taking on a leadership role where I represent the student body through social media. I will preserve the memories of STUCO and am excited to publicize events and increase our participation and spirit.

Outside of school, I’m an athletic trainer and I work at Starbucks as a barista. I think my life outside of school translates to my role as Historian because I bring creativity to everything I do. I love not only taking pictures and creating content, but also attending all of the events at school.

Next year, I want to see more participation from the student body. I feel like the student body at IHS is slowly becoming very academics focused, and while that’s good, we need more unity and participation. As Historian, I will make sure that the school spirit we need is spread further online.”

Treasurer, Sahasra Battina

“As Treasurer, I want to keep an organized budget throughout the year and stay assured that our funds are put to good use. I also want to ensure we enjoy the school year by planning school-related activities as best as possible.

We are all basically like a big family in STUCO, and just being around people that you are comfortable with allows you to showcase your true personality. That’s a big part of why I’m excited to be the treasurer and learn more about the other members. I want to use the funds STUCO has towards fun events for the school and that we are using the money properly.

Next year, I want to make sure that everyone in the student body is happy. We are all here for learning purposes but we want to have fun. I want to represent the student body in a way where they feel comfortable and enjoy being here.”
